Remember that GH and CB are now Saanich Fusion. We are working co-operatively to improve the soccer experience for our players!
Games should begin a little after 9:00am for Boys and a little after 10am for Girls. Players are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes prior to the hour. It is important for coaches to provide warm-up time and skill building time prior to games. Rushing to start the game is not wise, give the players time to practice various skills prior to kick-off. When both coaches are ready play 2x20 minute halves with a 5 min half-time for the first month. We will progress to 2x25 mins halves after October coaching course.
Style of play:
All teams will use the “box” formation with 2 in the “back” (L+R defenders) and 2 in the “front” L+R forwards) and a goalkeeper. Players are not permitted to kick the ball into the air without reason. Stopping the ball and trying to play must be stressed. Players should be substituted after 5 or 10 minutes not every 2 or 3. Players must try all positions and have fair opportunity to play them. Do not vary players’ positions constantly within a game, allow time for learning where to be.
Rules/Guidelines:
- No throw-ins use kick-ins from the side. The “front” player on that side of the box passes back to the back player on that side. Opposition back-up behind the line of the ball to allow the kick to be taken. If players are having difficulty controlling the kick-in the opposition will remain back until the receiving player has touched the ball. If deep in own end, the back player will pass forward to their front player who “shows” for the ball. This player will be encouraged to pass back. The opposition will back-up so that the boxes do not overlap.
- Goalkeepers will roll the ball to either of the back players and the Opposition will back up so the boxes barely overlap.
- Corners may be taken but on the ground as a pass to showing player.
- Coaches may be on the field to instruct and maintain control (1 per team and remain in behind your team at a diagonal to the other coach)
- No slide tackling permitted!
If a coach misses a clinic he/she is responsible to find out what information was given and be able to implement the tactical strategies discussed.
